For this draft i have added in a few more images that match with the stories in the magazine that are mentioned in the contents page. I have also faded the blue into the black so that it looks more professional and the page isnt split into obvious sections.

double page spread

my double page spread first draft is almost done now. all i need to do is change the picture to one i have taken. The picture that i have taken is similr to this one, but instead of the band, the 30 seconds to mars symbol is shown onstage. but the layout of the overall picture is very similar. I also have a picture of the crowd and a picture of enter shikari to match the other two smaller pictures on the page. At this point i have also already proof read my text to make sure there is no errors.

review for double page spread.

On the 4th of December, 30 Seconds to Mars rocked Manchester Central. Even before the doors opened the streets outside were flooded for hours with excited fans of both 30 Seconds and the support band Enter Shikari, waiting to get inside. Enter Shikari were the first to make their appearance, the crowd were going mental for their music, mosh pits were happening everywhere you turned. 30 Seconds opened their set list with their new song/ movie trailer, hurricane. The crowd began to crush closer and closer to the front. The atmosphere was immense as 30 Seconds made there appearance on stage. The crowd were going wild for Jared and the band, and went mental when they played their most popular songs closer to the edge and the kill. From 7 -10:30 Manchester Central was filled with none stop energy and the excitement of the fans was filling the room. One fan quotes “This was the best night of my life, I wish it didn’t end”. It seems that 30 Seconds to Mars along with their support band Enter Shikari, never fail to put on a phenomenal show.
Natasha (N): how was the recent UK tour?
Jared Leto (JL): It’s been really great; it was the tour of a life time to tell you the truth. We just finished the last show of our tour last Saturday (4th of December), and I’m now sad to say that it just went to quick. Now we are concentrating on our European tour it’s been a long time since we’ve toured in some countries, so it will be nice to go back.

(N): Has the visual side of your music always been an important aspect to your music?
(JL): Yes, the videos have always been a pretty big part of what we do and of who we are. We always have a lot of fun with them. I’ve always thought of our music videos as little films and they are just as important to us as the music is, it has been a blessing to be able to make them.

(N): Your fans have always been an important part of what you are doing. How important are they to you?
(JL): Our fans are probably the most important part of what we do, without them we would be no where. We don’t think of them as our fans, more like a big family. And at every gig we do, we are welcoming more people into our worldwide family.

(N): Up till now what would you say the best gig you’ve ever played was?
(JL):  It’s hard to pick just one show, each time they just get better and better.

(N): What would you say the best part of the night was for you?
(JL): I love interacting with the fans and getting them involved with the songs. It’s a great feeling when your family (the fans) sing along with you and really go for it. The highlight of the night, if I had to pick, was the last song of the night, when I had my fans up on stage with me, I just love connecting with them.

(N): What did you think of your support band Enter Shikari?
(JL): One word… WOW! They really got the crowd going.

This is the interview i have made for my double page spread. The interview is with the lead singer of 30 seconds to mars. I have done this as most rock magazine have interviews with bands.

Tuesday, 30 November 2010

here i have made a first draft of my double page spread including a similar image that i tend to use on my double page spread. i have used the colour scheme to keep it linked to the rest of my magazine. also on the front cover i have placed a small picture of the background picture, which also links in. This is highlighted as one of my main stories. I have chosen to do this for my doubl page spread as it links in to the genre of the magazine. Also i am attendint this gig so i am able to gather my own images and write a review on the concert to go in my magazine. another reason i want to do this is because not many poeple use real bands in their media work on their double page spread, but as i am going to a gig that fits in with the style of genre of my magazine, i found it the perfect opportunity to do something different.

double page spread

here i have started to creat ideas for my double page spread. i have decided to use a 30 seconds to mars gig on the 4th of december as my double page spread story.  This is my idea of the arrangement of the title. I had first planned to put it straight across but the text didnt fit to the size i wanted it. this worked out well for me as i think this layout looks better.

paramore

The videos on the top of my blog are of paramore. I have decided to do this as paramore are a rock band and are very popular to a wide range of people. i am also going a paramore concert in november, so it will be the perfect oppertunity to get some live pictures which could be used as a story that will be inclued in my magazine and placed on the front page, i could also use some of the live pictures I would have taken in my contents page, and also one on my front cover to attract the readers.

for this part of research i asked 10 people to fill out this small questionaire to see which name they think woul best suit the magazine and genre. The results showed that the majority of the people prefered the name RIOT! for the magazine name, the reasons for this are shown above. other choices made were stellify, which means turning into a star and is also an indie song, so would suit the magazine, and also Mosh, which is short for mosh pit and is linked to the rock genre. overall this has helped me s I now know which name would best appeal and sell my magazine.

front covers

Here are some effective front covers from popular music magazines. The covrs i have chosen also match my genre of indie and rock.

Front cover research

here i have researched three magazine front covers. i have evaluated the layout, colour scheme and pictures and information used on the front cover too see what is more effective. The magazines i have chosen also fit into the theme of indie and rock magazines, which links to the genre of magazine that i am doing.

the klaxons

From the research that i have done on different indie bands, that is shown at the side of my blog. the picture that stands out to me the most is The Klaxons picture. this is because it is more individual to the rest and is also very vibrent. Also the image its self is kept simple. This has helped me as i now have an idea of what type of image to put on my front cover.

word cloud

Below i have made a word cloud on words that are associated with media. i have done this so if i ever need to look at the different types of media for my research then i can go to this.
